چکیده

The DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey is now well underway, having already measured the redshifts to ∼5600 galaxies in its first season of observations. Here I briefly review the survey itself, before discussing in more detail some of the initial science results to have recently appeared in the literature. In particular, the potential of the survey to characterize galaxy evolution is discussed, with special emphasis on the role of spectral classification. Some of the applications of this classification, namely to the quantification of galaxy clustering and the measurement of galaxy environments are also discussed here.

The DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey: The evolution of the blue fraction in groups and the field

We explore the behavior of the blue galaxy fraction over the redshift range 0.75 6 z 6 1.3 in the DEEP2 Survey, both for field galaxies and for galaxies in groups. The primary aim is to determine the role that groups play in driving the evolution of galaxy colour at high z. In pursuing this aim, it is essential to define a galaxy sample that does not suffer from redshift-dependent selection eff...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Constraining Evolution in the Halo Model Using Galaxy Redshift Surveys

We use the latest observations from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey to fit the conditional luminosity function (CLF) formulation of the halo-model for galaxies at z = 0. This fit is then used to test the extent of evolution in the halo occupation distribution (HOD) to z = 0.8, by comparing the predicted clustering from this CLF to preliminary results from the DEEP2 Redshift Survey. We show that ...

The Deep 2 Galaxy Redshift Survey : the Galaxy Luminosity Function to Z ∼

The evolution of the B-band galaxy luminosity function is measured using a sample of more than 11,000 galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts from the DEEP2 Redshift Survey. The rest-frame MB versus U−B color-magnitude diagram of DEEP2 galaxies shows that the color-magnitude bimodality seen in galaxies locally is still present at redshifts z > 1. Dividing the sample at the trough of this color bi...

The Deep2 Galaxy Redshift Survey: Clustering of Quasars and Galaxies

We present the clustering of DEEP2 galaxies at 0.7 < z < 1.4 around quasars identified using both the SDSS and DEEP2 surveys. We measure the two-point cross-correlation of a sample of 36 opticallyselected, spectroscopically-identified quasars from the SDSS and 16 more found in the DEEP2 survey with the full DEEP2 galaxy sample over scales 0.1 < rp < 10 h −1 Mpc. The clustering amplitude is foun...
